King & Boyd History

King & Boyd was founded in 1908 by John Henry King and Patrick Russell Boyd.

John Henry King practiced as a sole Practitioner from 1924 until his death in 1948 after Patrick Russell Boyd retired from the Practice.

Mr King was a driving force behind the acquisition of the freehold interests of many tenant farmers and small holders in the South Down Area in the first half of the 20th Century.

After his sudden death in 1948 the Practice was acquired by his recently qualified apprentice Colman R Hanna.

He in turn acquired the Practice of J Fergus McCartan in Newcastle in 1959 and continued that Practice under the name of Colman R Hanna Solicitors from that date.

He remained a Partner at King & Boyd and the Practice amalgamated with the Practices of Colm Kelly Solicitor Downpatrick and Vincent P Fitzpatrick Solicitors Downpatrick in the 1990s.
